NCD
OBJECTIVES OF THE PROGRAMME :
To contribute to the promotion, prevention and Control of conditions of public health importance in an integrated and multisectoral approach to Chronic Non Communicable Diseases (CNCDs) prevention and control. To foster the integration of CNCDs of Public Health importance, with special focus on Cardiovascular Diseases, Cancer, Diabetes, Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Diseases, Genetic Disorders (especially sickle cell disease and other hemoglobin disorders), mental disorders, Eye, Ear and Oral health, violence, injuries and disability. To apply research to the Epidemiology, the Promotion, Prevention and Control of Chronic Non-communicable Diseases (CNCDs).
Description of duties:
- Provide technical expertise for the prevention and control of NCDs in the context of national health policies and strategies;
- Support Member States and provide technical support and advice to countries and their partners to develop, implement and evaluate policies, strategies and action plans for the prevention and control of NCDs in the context of strengthening the health system using the PHC approach;
- Support data collection, and contribute to the AHO, research and information dissemination and use for policy and programme development, advocacy and awareness-raising on NCD prevention and control;
- Strengthen partnership, collaboration with all stakeholders and networking to address NCDs
- Mobilize resource for the implementation of policies, strategies and plans developed in countries for the prevention and control of NCDs;
- Ensure coordination among the Programme area at IST level of all activities with regard to Advocacy, Resource mobilization, Strategic planning, strategic information and surveillance, Monitoring and Evaluation, and Research.
- Perform other related duties as assigned
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
Medical degree with a postgraduate qualification in either epidemiology or public health or one of the NCDs.
Skills:
Ability to design prevention and control of NCD programmes.
Demonstrated ability to work in multicultural and multidisciplinary settings and excellent inter-personal skills
Extensive knowledge and skills in epidemiology and public health
Ability to design strategies, administer projects and conduct operational activities
Knowledge of computer skills (Excel, Word, Access, PowerPoint,), communications network and distance-learning process.
Experience:
Essential: At least seven years experience in public health at national level, with emphasis on NCDs
Desirable: Some years of Experience at international level.
Languages:
Excellent knowledge of English or French, with a good working knowledge of the other language. Knowledge of other WHO working languages will be an asset.
Annual salary: (Net of tax)
USD 67483 at single rate
USD 72467 with primary dependants
