ABA ROLI is a non-profit program that implements legal
reform programs in roughly 60 countries around the world. ABA ROLI has nearly
700 professional staff working abroad and in its Washington, D.C.
office. ABA ROLI's host country partners include judges, lawyers, bar
associations, law schools, court administrators, legislatures, ministries of
justice and a wide array of civil society organizations, including human rights
groups.
Job Summary:
The ABA Rule of Law Initiative seeks a Program Manager for
its Africa Division. The Program Manager is responsible for a diverse portfolio
of rule of law grant-funded programs, supported primarily by the USG. The
Program Manager generally supervises at least one DC-based program staff and
coordinates closely with field-based program directors and staff. This position
will require overseas travel.
Responsibilities:
- Under the supervision of the Africa Division Director and in collaboration with colleagues in Washington DC and field staff, the Program Manager will be responsible for:
- Contributing to the overall success of rule of law and human rights programs in the field, providing programmatic support, conducting research and backstopping for field operations;
- Developing and assisting with start-up of new programs, strategic planning, proposal writing, work plan development, program reporting, monitoring and evaluation and facilitating smooth program operations;
- Supervising and mentoring program staff;
- Budgeting and financial oversight of programs;
- Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with donors and stakeholders;
- Business development including making new donor contacts and soliciting grant funding.
Qualifications:
- JD or Master's Degree in international relations or relevant field required;
- At least four years of relevant experience required;
- Professional experience in the field strongly preferred;
- Project management experience in international development field required, with a strong preference for experience in the rule of law and/or human rights field, including women's rights, business and human rights, and access to justice;
- Strong analytical, strategic thinking, oral and written communication and research skills and ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment;
- Demonstrated proposal writing, budget drafting and fundraising experience required;
- Experience in the Africa region strongly preferred; individuals with other regional expertise and relevant experience may be considered;
- Fluent French language skills (both oral and written) required;
- Candidate must be eligible to work in the US.
