Innovations for Poverty Action (IPA), is an international non-profit research organization. Based in New Haven, CT, with offices in Washington, D.C. and worldwide, IPA works with development partners and academic researchers to create and evaluate approaches to solving development problems, to communicate "what works" in development and to scale up successful projects in a variety of fields, including health, education, microfinance, governance and agriculture.
Position Summary:
Innovations for Poverty Action seeks qualified applicants for the position of Project Coordinator in Ghana for a project evaluating the USAID Feed the Future (FTF) project Resiliency in Northern Ghana (RING). The goal of RING is to improve the livelihoods and nutritional status of households in Northern Ghana, via three program components: 1) Livelihoods: increasing dietary diversity and consumption of foods rich in micronutrients, especially among women and children by increasing diversification of agricultural incomes, access to financial services and access to storage to help smooth consumption; 2) Nutrition: improving behaviors related to nutrition and hygiene of women and young children; and 3) Governance: strengthening the capacity of District Assemblies and local government structures to address the ongoing needs of vulnerable households. The Principal Investigators for this project are Daniel Gilligan and Melissa Hidrobo from the International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI).
Project Coordinators work closely with academic researchers and other field staff to perform a variety tasks including, but not limited to: overseeing several other project staff, designing survey questionnaires, conducting qualitative research, running pilot exercise, refining study design and surveying instruments, managing survey teams, checking and analyzing data, cleaning data and assisting in preliminary analysis, assisting in the writing of project reports and policy memos, coordinating with local partners running the programs being evaluated, and supporting outreach to policymakers in country.
Qualifications:
- Master's degree in economics, social sciences, public policy, or related fields.
- Training in development economics.
- Several years of relevant work experience.
- Prior work or volunteer experience in development in developing countries a plus.
- Experience working with local government, especially in developing countries is also a plus.
- Experience living and conducting field research in a developing country is a strong plus.
- Excellent management and organizational skills along with strong quantitative skills.
- The ability to present positions and to negotiate with senior officials.
- Fluency and excellent communication skills in English.
- Flexibility, self-motivation, the ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently as a team player.
- Demonstrated ability to manage high-level relationships with partner organizations.
- Knowledge of Stata (strongly preferred), SAS, or other data analysis software.
- Familiarity with randomized controlled trials.
