About the Job: FINCA International is looking for an Executive Initiatives Intern - Spring, to be based in Washington, DC. Internship would ideally begin immediately and last 3-6 months. The intern will work with executive office staff across a number of priority initiatives.

Tasks and Responsibilities:


  •     Research and analyze best practices in the microfinance industry;
  •     Monitor and summarize news within and related to the microfinance industry;
  •     Support CEO advocacy efforts, including researching speaking and interview opportunities and drafting talking points for secured opportunities;
  •     Support FINCA's internal policy development process, including researching, drafting, updating and disseminating FINCA policies for subsidiaries;
  •     Support the subsidiary and network performance and monitoring;
  •     Support development of presentations and talking points for high-level meetings;
  •     Support for multiple boards of directors and their quarterly meetings;
  •     Logistically and technically support high priority executive office projects;
  •     Assist with miscellaneous administrative tasks;
  •     Other special projects as assigned.

    Qualifications:
  •         Interest in and knowledge of microfinance, finance, and development issues;
  •         Excellent communication skills, especially written and editing;
  •         Exceptional research skills and experience with major research project, thesis, etc.
  •         Qualitative and quantitative analysis skills;
  •         Strong organizational skills; accuracy and attention to detail; ability to multi-task and complete projects by deadline;
  •         Ability to take initiative and work independently;
  •         International experience is beneficial;
  •         Ability to work in a deadline-driven environment and under time pressure;
  •         Available 24-40 hours per week (minimum of 20 hours per week required), for 3-6 months.
  •     Education & experience
  •         MBA or Graduate Program candidate (highly qualified undergraduate seniors may also apply), ideally focusing on international development, international relations, economics or a related field;
  •     Language skills:
  •         Proficiency in a second language is highly desirable: Spanish, French, Russian, Arabic or Dari are preferred;
  •     Computer skills:
  •         Proficiency in a full range of MS Office applications (specifically, intermediate Excel proficiency); experience with Visio highly desirable;
    Key deliverables:
        Biweekly Microfinance News Summaries;
        Supporting Documents for Executive Advocacy, including pitches and event briefing documents;
        Compilation, review, and distribution of Board Books (from an assistance capacity).
        Internal Policy Manual annual review and update;
        Subsidiary and network performance and resource monitoring;
        Annual MIX Market report.
