Organizational Setting and Reporting

The UNFF Secretariat internship is for two months with an opportunity for extension, pending on the needs of the department.

The internship is UNPAID and full-time.

Interns work five days per week (35 hours) under the supervision of a staff member in the department or office to which they are assigned.

Responsibilities
Provide logistical and substantive backstopping activities in support of the following Facilitative Process Projects:

1. UNEP/GEF funded project on forest financing in Small Island Developing States and Low Forest Cover Countries: Component III – forest financing and communication strategies;

2. German-funded project on forest financing in Africa and Least Developed Countries: Component III – communication strategy;

3. RPTC-funded project on climate change financing for SFM – Component I: background study and selection of pilot countries and regions.

Activities and outputs of the intern will include the following:

Generating a bibliography on forest financing and suggesting links and uploads on the subject to the upcoming Facilitative Process website;

Overseeing the translation of all relevant Facilitative Process documents by the UN translation department;

Ensuring the timeliness of the deliverables expected from consultants by maintaining regular contact by phone and/or email;

Drafting emails enabling UNFF staff to liaise with Member States by providing updates on activities of the Facilitative Process, in particular on the communication strategy of the SIDS-LFCC project, and with pilot countries/regions on the activities of the Climate Change project;

Any other relevant duty required as part of the mandate of the Facilitative Process and the UNFF Secretariat more generally.

Education
To qualify for an internship with the United Nations New York Headquarters Internship Programme, the following conditions must be met:

Applicants must be enrolled in a degree programme in a graduate school (second university degree or higher); or

If pursuing their studies in countries where higher education is not divided into undergraduate and graduate stages, have completed at least four years of full-time studies at a university or equivalent institution towards the completion of a degree;

Be computer literate in standard software applications.

Work Experience

Applicants are not required to have professional work experience for participation in the programme.

Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United NationsSecretariat. Fluency in spoken and written English is required for the Internship Programme. Knowledge of an additional official UN language is an asset. Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish are the official languages of the United Nations Secretariat.
