The OHCHRinternship is for 6 months.

The internship is UNPAID and full-time.

Responsibilities

  
Under the guidance and directive of the Head of the Office, the intern will assist OHCHR Regional Office for South-East Asia in discharging a range of public information tasks, in particular:

• Assist in preparing daily news;
• Assist in obtaining news clippings on human rights issues from newspapers and online sources;
• Provide research for backgrounders/press releases/position papers;
• Help design and prepare various information materials and publications;
• Provide assistance in preparing public information materials, including presentation;
- Assist in distribution of materials, including through establishment and maintenance of updated distribution lists:
• Assist in the preparation of briefing sessions on the work of OHCHR;
• Assist in the organization and execution of special events to mark UN observances related to human rights;
• Help take photos of events, when required;
• Help organize human rights events/exhibitions;
• Assist in uploading information and updating OHCHR ROB’s website;
• Other ad-hoc assignments as required by the Head of the Office, or direct supervisor.

Education
  
Applicants must be enrolled in a degree programme in a graduate school(second university degree or higher); or if pursuing their studies in countries where higher education is not divided into undergraduate and graduate stages, have completed at least fours years of full-studies at a university or equivalent institution towards the completion of a degree.

Be computer literate in standard software applications;

Have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter; and

Have a demonstrated the ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.
   
Work Experience

     
Applicants are not required to have professional work experience for participation in the programme.
      
Languages

      
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat.  Fluency in English (both oral and written) is required for the Internship Programme.  Knowledge of another official UN language is an asset.
