Job Description:
A staff member at
this first chemist level is required to apply and interpret standard chemistry
or other scientific theories, concepts, and techniques. Incumbents search
literature, conduct experimental tests, collect, analyze, summarize data for
review by more experienced staff, and prepare reports that demonstrate
organization, clarity, completeness, and proper format. Chemists at this level
are expected to communicate regularly with their RTI project leader, keeping
them informed of progress and potential complications and demonstrate
proficiency with project-specific documentation. Work activities will include
sample receipt, custody, and preparation, operation and maintenance of common
laboratory equipment, independent instrumental analysis (ICP-OES, ICP-MS, XRF,
etc.) using established methods, limited data quality control and review,
providing input into the design of experiments and analyses, authoring SOPs and
related documents, and contributing to limited sections of research reports or
proposals.
Qualifications:
BS degree in
chemistry or related field plus 1 years of relevant experience.
Experience with
EDXRF strongly preferred.
Experience with
ICP-MS, ICP-OES, WDXRF, or CVAFS preferred.
Experience with
UPLC preferred.
Experience with
RTI documentation practices, laboratory procedures, proficiency testing
programs, and laboratory safety procedures are strongly preferred.
To qualify,
