The Position:
Overall Objectives
To provide overall financial, accounting and general
resource management expertise and analysis to senior management.
Main Duties and Responsibilities:
Leadership and Management
Contribute to broader strategic planning for AKF's work in
Mozambique with particular relevance to cooperation with the agencies of the
Aga Khan Development Network;
Play an active role in mentoring and developing the
professionalism, maturity and an optimal business approach of all staff;
Assist the Chief Executive Officer with oversight,
administration and streamlining of practices and systems and establishing
effective procedures;
Assist in the assessment of the systems and process related
to the improved management and efficiency of the AKF (Moz) programme and
provide continual input, recommendations and possible solutions on methods for
improvement and innovation;
Participate in management and undertake such duties as
assigned by the CEO;
Financial Management and Control
Supervise and contribute to development and design of new
financial applications and databases;
Supervise regular forecast analysis of the unit budget
(including all programme grants) and prepare financial reports for more
effective decision-making;
Ensure statutory compliance under the Income Tax provide
advice and assistance to the CEO on all related matters;
Coordinate all internal and external audits;
Prepare budgets and accounts ensuring consistency, accuracy
and correctness of all information presented;
Oversee all financial reporting to the Head Office in
Geneva;
Prepare regular management reports for the CEO;
Supervise and manage the core and programme finance team;
Contribute to regular financial reports and general
enquiries on programme grants required by donor agencies;
Supervise and ensure effective cash and currency management
instruments, including liaison with the banking and financial services
industry;
Supervise the preparation of various documentations,
budgets, reports and presentations for the AKF (Moz) National Committee and the
AKF Board;
The Requirements:
Required Qualifications
A graduate degree in accounting and finance or equivalent,
with a minimum of five years progressive experience in accounting;
Familiarity with computerized accounting systems and
attention to detail would be required.
Knowledge of donor agency grant processes, procedures, and
auditing requirements would be desirable.
Must be an energetic self-starter; with proven experience in
leading the finance function at a reputable institution.
Fluency in English is required; knowledge of Portuguese will
be an added benefit.
