The Position
Aga Khan Planning and Building Services (AKPBS) works to improve the built environment, particularly housing design, construction, village planning, natural hazard mitigation, environmental sanitation, water supplies, and other living conditions. AKPBS achieves these goals through the provision of material and technical assistance and construction management services for rural and urban areas.
The Position
Human Resources (HR) has an overall responsibility for the management of HR function including recruitment and selection, performance management system, organisational development, policy development, employee relations, compensation/ benefits administration and compliance with Institution's policies and HR laws and regulations.
Specific Responsibilities:
- Supporting and facilitating timely recruitment, development and retention of qualified and motivated staff.
- Coordinating and keeping records of all staff recruitment, appraisals, promotions, transfers, salary review, and dismissal if necessary, in conformity with the internal policies and legal requirements.
- Reviewing and upgrading whenever necessary the HR Manual as well as the employee handbook and ensuring its compliance with HR laws and regulations.
- Overseeing the staff performance appraisal process, including salary review and promotions.
- Preparing a training plan and introducing it upon management approval. Ensuring staff career and professional development opportunities.
- Ensuring that all employment contracts are in compliance with the laws of the country.
- Ensuring that the HR department is managed effectively.
- Ensuring conducive working environment across the organisation.
The Requirements
Qualification: The successful candidate should have a Master's degree in Human Resource Management or Business Administration from a reputable institution.
Experience:
At least 5 years of professional experience in management of HR function.
Prior experience working with a project based non-for-profit organisation.
Experience working with a diverse workforce.
Skills and Abilities:
- Demonstrate the highest level of ethical behaviour.
- Remain flexible in order to adapt to changes in work environment.
- Excellent time-management, problem-prevention and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent interpersonal skills to facilitate interaction with the workforce.
- Communicate effectively, verbally and in writing, to a diverse audience.
- Work effectively, professionally and tactfully with Institution's diverse workforce, team leaders, senior staff and external agencies.
- Maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.
- Ability to groom, develop and build capacity of HR staff reporting to him/her.
- Proven team management skills as well as the ability to work independently with an aptitude to work under pressure and comply with strict deadlines.
- Basic computer skills, including e-mail, word processing and spreadsheets.
- Able to travel to various offices within country and oversees.
