Job Description
PATH is an international nonprofit organization that transforms global health through innovation. We take an entrepreneurial approach to developing and delivering high-impact, low-cost solutions, from lifesaving vaccines and devices to collaborative programs with communities. Through our work in more than 70 countries, PATH and our partners empower people to achieve their full potential.

Vaccine Access and Delivery (VAD) supports the integration of vaccines for public health impact and disease control in developing countries. We focus on activities that facilitate vaccine introduction and widespread use in national immunization programs, such as determining disease burden, conducting clinical trials, establishing the health economics of vaccine use, raising awareness of disease burden and the impact of vaccination, increasing availability of technologies through licensing and commercialization, and advocating for appropriate policies. In addition, we implement activities that improve the accessibility of high-quality immunization services, including training, supervision, health information systems, and immunization safety, logistics, and communications.

VAD is seeking a full-time health economist with experience in the design and performance of economic evaluations of health care interventions. This person would apply their skills to a range of operational and research projects, including the evaluation of large vaccine introduction programs in developing countries, cost and impact assessments of diagnostics, and the analysis of current modeling tools for relevance to PATH’s work. The analytical work would primarily require the performance of cost-effectiveness analysis using decision-analytic modeling, and cost analysis. However, disease modeling and statistical applications will also be employed.

Responsibilities:

•Design and conduct economic analyses for public health interventions or specific health technologies, including:

◦Cost-effectiveness and impact of vaccines, medications, diagnostics and devices

◦Cost analyses of health programs or interventions

◦Budget impact modeling

◦Net benefit analysis

◦Disease transmission modeling to inform economic analyses

◦Econometric analyses

•Design and conduct studies to collect primary data on the costs of disease and health care interventions

•Work with the teams to interpret and communicate results of the analyses to relevant stakeholders

•Provide input to teams on methods and modeling approaches that can be employed to help them better understand the underlying value of an intervention/technology, compared to the status quo or alternative technologies

•Participate in report writing, presentations, and publication of results and findings in peer-reviewed journals

•Contribute to development and writing of proposals for new projects

•Evaluate existing analytical tools, including models to determine their relevance to specific PATH projects or programs

•Represent PATH at international, regional, and national meetings, and, where appropriate, present findings from research and analyses

Required Skills
•Demonstrated excellence and a minimum of four years of experience conducting economic evaluations of health care interventions
•Experience in building health economic models using software such as Excel and TreeAge and conducting sensitivity analysis using software such as @Risk or Crystal ball, or similar type software
•Working knowledge of data analysis software such as SPSS, STATA
•Demonstrated ability to communicate research methods and results into publishable manuscripts for peer-reviewed journals
•Ability to work effectively with colleagues to achieve team goals
•Excellent verbal and written communication skills
•Ability to travel up to 30% annually

Required Experience

PhD in health economics, health policy, epidemiology or related field, with demonstrated analytical and modeling experience or Master’s degree in health economics, health policy or related field with at least seven years of demonstrated analytical and modeling experience. Must have at least 4+ years of professional experience in conducting economic evaluations of health care interventions. Experience in developing country settings is a plus.

Must have legal authorization to work in the United States.

PATH is dedicated to diversity and is an equal opportunity employer.
