The Writer/Editor Intern will play a lead role in writing and editing standard job descriptions that will be posted to an e-library and available to Conservation International's managers and staff.

The job descriptions will be used to build an online library of about 300 job descriptions grouped within 13 job families. The creation and maintenance of this highly visible, organization-wide initiative will help CI become more efficient and effective in hiring, promoting and retaining the highly qualified staff we need to succeed.

He/she will also post and maintain content in the job description library of CI's intranet site and draft related communications as assigned. The intern will also develop and manage a tracking system to monitor project progress and provide management with periodic status updates.

Ability to work effectively with others, strong attention to detail and superb written communication skills are required.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES


  •     Write job descriptions based on current position descriptions. Ensure that job descriptions accurately reflect position duties and requirements and conform to the pay band profiles.
  •     Review and edit job descriptions written by project team members. Editing will require rewriting materials produced by others to provide a consistent style and voice in all final products.
  •     Post completed job descriptions to the standard job description e-library.
  •     Help manage the visual image of the e-library to provide user-friendly navigation, look and structure. Help respond to user questions, complaints and suggestions.
  •     Track completed job descriptions and assess progress.
  •     Attend meetings to update team members and provide support to help them meet project goals.
  •     Provide related support as directed.

Working Conditions:

    This position is based in CI Headquarters in Arlington, VA
    Normal office environment

QUALIFICATIONS

Required:

  •     2 + years of undergraduate studies in journalism, English, public relations, communications, marketing or equivalent.
  •     Experience in writing, editing and developing content in an organizational setting.
  •     Ability to translate job requirements into clear, concise and compelling descriptions.
  •     Proficiency in MS Office, Google Mail and online research.
  •     Strong organization and written communication skills. Ability to prioritize and manage high volume work and meet deadlines.
  •     Service focus. Courteous, tactful and proven ability to work effectively with others from a variety of disciplines, cultures and backgrounds.
  •     Ability to work under general supervision.

Preferred:
  •     Course work in business or human resources a plus.
  •     Fluency in Spanish, French or Portuguese preferred.
  •     Content management or HTML experience helpful.
  •     Familiarity with Associated Press style helpful.
  •     Understanding of and/or interest in environmental and development issues.
