General Temporary Assistancy. Until 31 December 2013. Entry on duty date is to be determined. A roster of suitable candidates may be established for this particular profile as a result of this selection process for both fixed-term established and general temporary assistance posts.
Duties & Responsibilities Under the direct supervision of the Psychologist/Psychological Trauma Expert of the Victims and Witnesses Unit in the Division of Court Services, the Associate Psychologist will provide psychological assessments, contribute to management plans and psychological services to maximise the overall wellbeing of victims and witnesses accepted into the ICCPP and of vulnerable witnesses and victims appearing in Court; Duties will include: 1. Assist the Psychologist/Psychological Trauma Expert with the implementation of the ICCPP witness/victim management Programme in HQ and the field and tailor it to the various situations of the Court in the regions of operation. 2. Conduct psychosocial assessments for inclusion in the ICC Witness Protection Programme, prepare reports and advise on suitability of applicants, contribute to the development of management plans and implement support of the victims and witnesses accepted onto the ICCPP. 3. Monitor the assimilation of the witnesses and their family members accepted into the ICCPP and contribute to the design of exit strategies. 4. Conduct psychological assessments of witnesses and victims appearing before the Court, in particular of vulnerable witnesses such as victims of gender-based violence, children, ex-child soldiers and highly traumatized persons. The assessments are to establish whether or not it is appropriate for such witnesses to give evidence and to recommend special measures to facilitate testimony. 5. Contribute to offering expert advice and training to VWU staff on mental health and psychosocial issues, the management of ICCPP witnesses and vulnerable witnesses and victims. 6. Provide In-Court-Assistance to victims/witnesses when required and give direction to support assistants conducting in-court assistance.
7. Assist in liaising and networking with NGOs and relevant State Party authorities to develop a network of mental health and psychosocial services, when appropriate. 8. Must be able to travel to the field on missions of varying lengths of time. 9. Perform other duties as required.
Essential Qualifications 1. A first level university degree in Psychology (Clinical or Forensic psychology or related field); 2. Minimum of four years (two years with an advanced university degree) of working experience of directly counselling vulnerable groups such as victims of sexual violence and other vulnerable groups; experience with conducting psychosocial/psychological assessments and writing reports and proven ability to assess distress, make referrals and to work with clients from a wide range of ethnic and cultural backgrounds; 3. Having experience in assessing the suitability of persons for inclusion in a witness protection program, field experience and/or experience with working with victims in conflict-affected settings will be considered an asset; 4. Professional registration and membership or eligibility for membership to relevant professional body or association and evidence on ongoing professional development in the area of trauma and/or victims of sexual violence highly preferable; 5. Strong communication skills; ability to create and maintain contact and cooperation with external interlocutors and to work under pressure; 6. Willingness to work flexible hours; 7. Computer skills; 8. Skills in drafting reports and conducting research; 9. Ability to work in a team as well as to work without close supervision; 10. Experience working in conflict or post-conflict environments. KNOWLEDGE OF LANGUAGES Fluency in either of the working languages of the Court, English or French, is essential. Working knowledge of the other is highly desirable. Knowledge of another official language of the Court would be considered an asset (Arabic, Chinese, Russian, Spanish). Note: The successful applicant must enter into a confidentiality agreement with the Victims and Witnesses Unit.
