Institute for Peace and Security Studies (IPSS), Addis Ababa University
IPSS is a premier institute for peace and security studies in Africa. Its mission is to promote peace and security in Ethiopia and Africa at large through education, research and professional development. The Institute produces skilled professionals in conflict prevention, management and resolution as well as in peace building, and promotes the values of a democratic and peaceful society. The African Peace and Security Programme (APSP) is a joint collaboration between the IPSS and the African Union (AU). It was established with the aim to contribute towards enhancing the capacity of the Peace and Security Department (PSD) of the AU.
Objective
Under the supervision of the APSP Programme Director, the Programme Officer will mainly assist the IPSS management team in its day to day functions.
Deliverables
Programme Tasks:
- Provide input and contribute to teamwork and team building within IPSS as required, including taking the lead on projects, translation, responding to emails requests, proof reading of documents, gathering information on related issues and facilitation of meetings.
- Preparation of annual individual work plan with measurable performance objectives;
- Reports tracking and delivery from the members of the management team.
- Analyze African media coverage of peace and security issues and assist the Communication Coordinator in preparing media briefings.
- Support the Director and the communication team on all public relations tasks.
- Proposals writing
- Provide technical inputs on documents destined to the Director attention.
Administrative Tasks:
Ensure the follow up of the implementation of the recommendation of the Management team meetings.
Draft terms of reference for programme staff to be recruited and organize interviews and follow up on recruitment documentation.
Financial Tasks:
Finalize budget sheet, inputs AWP, and “fiche de deblocage”
Assist in fundraising
Qualification and experience
- MA in Political science, international relations, Peace in Security or in related fields
- Four to five years of relevant professional experience
- Knowledge of computer and software applications is a must (word, excel, PowerPoint and internet)
- Fluency in English. French is an added advantage
- African National
