Role overview
For our Health Program in Ethiopia we are currently recruiting a
paediatrician for Adwa Hospital. As paediatrician you'll be sharing skills and
knowledge with staff in the paediatrics department and providing clinical
services in the hospital. Your job will be to perform medical examinations,
diagnose, prescribe medicine and treatment. You'll also audit neonatal and
paediatric morbidity. You'll manage medical documentation and advise how to
improve the information system in place. During medical conferences you'll
address complicated paediatric cases. You'll help set up a neonatal unit in the
hospital. All this in a setting with limited resources, but also with the opportunity
to gain experience with different patterns of diseases.
Skills, qualifications and experience required
You have a Medical Degree (MBBS or equivalent) and a minimum of 2 years
specialist experience and training in paediatrics within a hospital setting.
Prior experience in clinical teaching in the area of paediatric care is
desirable. You are willing to commit for at least 6 months.
Adwa is located in the central zone of the Tigray region, has an elevation
of 1900 m. There is access for internet, mobile service, and public telephone.
The hospital will provide shared office space, and basic office furniture and
stationeries. It is advisable to come with your own laptop.
The official regional language is ‘Tigrigna’ while the national language is
‘Amharic’. The students and staff speak and understand English without any
difficulty. When dealing with patients, the volunteer will be assisted by a
translator (staff on Duty).
