OBJECTIVES OF THE PROGRAMME
:
To address the underlying
social determinants of health through policies and programmes that enhances
health equity and integrates pro-poor, gender-responsive, and human
rights-based approaches.
Description of duties:
Under the guidance and
supervision of the Technical Officer (Health in Development) and the Director,
Health Sector Development, the incumbent will perform the following tasks:
1. To advocate
equity-focused, gender-responsive and human rights-based approaches to public
health in WHO Western Pacific Region countries and among WHO staff, including
development of related tools and advocacy materials.
2. To support Members States
in understanding and mainstreaming social determinants, equity, gender, human
rights related issues in health policies, programmes and actions and support
capacity building including training and inter-country meetings.
3. To support to Member
States in designing, implementing and monitoring policies, programmes and
actions on ageing and health.
4. To facilitate and conduct
research and develop tools and advocacy material on social determinants,
equity, gender, human rights, and ageing and health-related issues, including
maintain webpages and databases and document regional experiences and practices.
5. To support the
implementation of the social determinants, equity, gender, human rights, and
ageing and health workplan in the Regional Office, including planning,
reporting and other programme management tasks, and giving advice to WHO
Country Offices on integration of social determinants, equity, gender, human
rights, and ageing and health-related issues in WHO workplans.
6. To build partnerships and
networks, liaise with other WHO Offices and HQ to support joint initiatives and
support resource mobilization at regional and country levels.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
University degree in one of
the following or related fields: social sciences, health sciences, economics,
law, development, public health. Advanced university degree in a relevant field
and training in public health, gender, equity, and human rights are an
advantage.
Skills:
Broad expertise in
mainstreaming gender, equity, human rights, social determinants, and experience
in public health strategic planning as well as in ageing and health.
Ability to adapt and apply
the general concepts on ageing, gender, equity, human rights and social
determinants to country contexts.
Strong interpersonal and
diplomatic skills.
Integrity, tact, discretion
and sensitivity to cultural differences
Good negotiation,
c.ommunication and advocacy skills.
Proficient in standard MS
Office software applications.
Presentation skills.

Experience:
At least five years'
experience, of which some should be at the international level in public
health, social sciences, law, economics, gender, human rights or related field.
With broad experience in mainstreaming gender, equity, human rights and other
cross-cutting issues is preferred.
Languages:
Written and spoken fluency
in English is essential. Working knowledge of other UN languages is an
advantage.

Annual salary: (Net of tax)
USD 56 198 at single rate
USD 60 205 with primary
dependants Post Adjustment: 59.1 % of
the above figure(s). This percentage is to be considered as indicative since
variations may occur each month either upwards or downwards due to currency
exchange rate fluctuations or inflation.
