The Position
Working in select countries in which it can harness significant
indigenous experience, AKFC and its partners seek to address the interconnected
causes of poverty through a long-term, multi-input approach that empowers
individuals and communities. In Canada, AKFC undertakes research and learning
initiatives, links Canadian individual and institutional expertise with that of
counterparts in developing countries, and offers programs that aim to improve
the quality of development policy and practice and strengthen public
understanding of critical global issues.
PROGRAM MANAGEMENT
PROFESSIONALS
As its programs overseas and in Canada continue to expand,
AKFC is seeking experienced Program Management Professionals to join its
dynamic team in Ottawa. Candidates with development programming experience in a
range of sectors and geographies are encouraged to apply. Program Management
Professionals are integral members of AKFC's team. Their role is multifaceted,
challenging and fast-paced, and they are expected to contribute substantively
to AKFC's strategic directions, learning agenda, and program management and
development processes.
Specific areas of
focus include:
Program management: managing the complete project cycle for
specific projects; assessing and addressing technical assistance needs of
project partners; coordinating human and financial inputs to support project
implementation; building and maintaining relationships with Canadian and field
partners; meeting all project-related reporting and accountability
requirements; leading the performance measurement and results-based management
(RBM) processes; and contributing to shared systems and tools to ensure
rigorous project and program management;
Program development: identifying opportunities for new
programs; developing concept papers, proposals and responsive bids for new
programs; liaising with field, CIDA, and other partners on program development;
Program/policy analysis, M&E and learning: designing and
implementing strategies and initiatives to monitor and evaluate projects and
programs; developing and implementing learning agendas in relevant sectors and
programs to inform development policies, programs and practices; and supporting
public engagement events and communication products to engage a wide audience
in Canada on issues related to international development assistance.
The Requirements
Qualifications and Competencies:
A graduate degree in a relevant discipline
Five years of solid international development experience in
Canada and overseas
Experience supporting the setup of M&E systems and
baselines
A familiarity with donor policies and trend
A thorough understanding of development issues in South and
Central Asia and/or Africa
Exceptional
analytical and writing skills
The ability to contribute to a variety of knowledge
products, strong initiative, flexibility, and decision-making skills
Willingness to travel to developing and/or conflict
countries
Knowledge of French and/or other languages of regional
interest to AKFC
