About us
BBC Media Action is the BBC’s international development
charity, which uses media and communications to help reduce poverty and support
people to understand their rights. We do this through partnering with civil
society, media and others to produce creative programmes and other outputs
which inform and engage audiences on key development issues. We also strengthen
the media sector through building professional capacity and infrastructure and
our focus is on health, governance and rights, and resilience and humanitarian
response. As Country Director, Tanzania,
you’ll lead and expand on our valuable work in the country.
About the role
You’ll be at the heart of all we do in Tanzania,
leading on developing new projects, securing funds for these projects, and
delivering our current work to a high standard, on time and within budget.
Importantly therefore, you’ll be managing in-country teams and ensuring the
quality and cohesion of our project outputs. You’ll also be responsible for the
financial management of projects and reporting on editorial and operational
progress to London
headquarters and to project donors. As such, you’ll engage with a range of
stakeholders and build key partnerships with funding agencies, government
bodies, broadcasters, NGOs, academic institutions, international development
agencies and others. Additionally, you’ll have a real input into the
development and implementation of our Country Strategy for Tanzania, contributing to the overall
development and strategy of the wider Africa
programme. Please note that this is a 3 year fixed-term opportunity.
About you
You’ll bring substantial management experience, ideally in a
media and/or international development setting, experience of managing country
operations overseas alongside a proven ability to deliver complex projects
within deadline and budget. Within this, you’ll show significant experience in
managing large scale annual budgets of no less than £500K. Supporting these skills
will be your strong understanding of international development. As such, you’ll
know how we can use the media for development goals and will combine this
understanding with a strong track record of developing proposals and raising
funds from donor agencies.
