MBD - Mortality and Burden of Disease
OBJECTIVES OF THE PROGRAMME :
The overall objective of HSI is to enhance the availability and use of
sound health information at
country, regional and global levels. The emphasis is on improving country
level availability and use
of health information, with a focus on countries with limited health
information and high mortality.
Description of duties:
1) Create and manage frameworks for analyzing, collating and updating
programme data for the Global Health Observatory and the World Health
Statistics annual publication, including monitoring of
health-related Millenium Development Goals (MDGs).
2) Independently manage the production of the World Health Statistics and
MDG report in multiple working languages for dissemination during the World
Health Assembly.
3) Undertake developmental work for data quality standards, protocols and
country systems. Establish and maintain collaborative working relationships
with counterparts in WHO regional offices to ensure coherence and consistency
in data analysis and dissemination.
4) Compile, analyse, and synthesize information on mortality and causes of
death,including writing and running statistical code.
5) Contribute to WHO review and clearance request process for estimates;
all estimates for disease, risk factors and program coverage are cleared by
HSI, involving careful review and providing comments as necessary.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
* Essential
First level university degree in a quantitative discipline.

Desirable
An advanced degree with relevant public health, health information or
statistics content
Skills:
1) Experience in quantitative analyses of health indicators. 2) Expert
knowledge of Tableau and
advanced skills in programming in Stata and R statistical software
application.3) High level of
proficiency in use of other data management and visualization tools such as
Access and Excel. 4) Experience in the preparation and publication of major
reports in print and web formats. 5) Good capacity for team work.

Experience:
* Essential
A minimum of 5 years' experience in analyzing and/or management and
dissemination of
population statistical data, of which at least one year at the
international level. Significant
experience in data warehouse development with emphasis on collection and
validation. Skills in
data analysis and presentation, including relevant software. Experience in
the preparation and
publication of major reports in electronic and print formats.
Desirable
Experience in working with international organizations, preferably within
WHO and/or other UN agencies
Languages:
Expert knowledge of English with beginner's knowledge of French.
