Description
Austal is currently looking to employ either a full time
lawyer with 2-3 years' post admission experience, or a part time lawyer with
around 5 years' post admission experience.
Construction and general contracting experience is highly
valued, either in a private practice or in an in-house capacity. Reporting to
the General Counsel but with substantial autonomy where practical, this role
will service all parts of the business from shipbuilding and maintenance,
tenders and contractual negotiations, electrical and combat systems procurement,
establishment and oversight of strategic partnerships and dispute resolution.
This new position will provide support across the Austal
businesses. The position is based at Austal's global head office at Henderson
Shipyard Operations, on the water as part of the Australian Marine Complex near
Fremantle. Austal is the Australian leader in an exciting industry and our
workforce prides itself on teamwork, with coaching and mentoring within the
business strongly encouraged.
The successful
candidate can expect to be involved in a wide range of tasks including:
Reviewing and negotiating tenders and contracts;
Drafting and reviewing partnership and joint venture
arrangements;
Providing contractual advice to project teams;
Advising on intellectual property and technology matters;
Assisting with company secretarial duties;
Assisting with employment issues; and
Dispute resolution.
Skills and experience
required
The successful candidate will have:
at least 2-3 years of corporate experience gained at a mid
or top tier firm or in house at a large company;
A good academic record;
A positive, team focused and flexible approach; and
The ability to communicate effectively on technical matters
and with technical staff.
The successful applicant will need to be eligible to work in
Australia and admitted to
practice law in Western Australia.
